Don’t Waste Your Life September 15, 2008

I can remember when in high school the days trickled by so fast it all seemed like a blur. During graduation I vaguely remember some guy, valedictorian, telling his hearers that all of life was directly in front of us and that we could do anything we set our minds to. I could have cared less during those years. But know—looking back on that graduation day, 17 years ago, I really did have by whole life in front of me. And looking back at the last 17 years, I must tell you for 6 years I absolutely wasted life. I floated through life like I had the rest of my life ahead of me. And I didn’t. For six years of my college life I did what I wanted to do. I went to parties, I watched people drink, smoke, use drugs and do you know what I said or did—nothing. I did not participate in any of these things but I certainly was not bringing any glory to Christ—knowing all he did for me. I wasted it—wasted the opportunities.
What about you? As a Christian, how much of your life have you wasted on meaningless things? Television? Radio? Internet? How much of your life has been wasted on doing things you wanted to do with no notion that God has a better or different plan for you? Look back over your life—how much did you waste? The thing is this; you have no way of determining how much of your life you still have to go. Only God knows—you could have 5 years or minutes. The question is how much more are you willing to waste doing meaningless things when you could be bringing glory to God?
Resolve with me to make the adjustments to your life to do only those things that bring God glory. Glory is brought to God through worship, service, love and personal holiness. Let us stop doing things that are utterly meaningless to the glory of our Lord. Amen?
